Built for west-of-Edmonton weather

Hail in 2019, wildfire in 2021, winter every year. Roofing west of Edmonton.

Spruce Grove and Stony Plain were named in the August 2019 hailstorm, and two years later a wildfire near Tomahawk forced an evacuation in western Parkland County. Add long, cold winters and lake homes that sit empty for weeks at a time. Below: how an Interlock® aluminum roof deals with each, and the limits we put in writing.

Hail

August 2, 2019

Large hail hit west Edmonton, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain on August 2, 2019, damaging siding and vehicles; CatIQ put insured damage at about $90 million. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. No roof is immune to hail, and the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in).

Wildfire

Tomahawk, May 2021

In May 2021 a wildfire near Tomahawk, southwest of Wabamun Lake, grew past 2,200 hectares and forced a mandatory evacuation; the fire chief said the structures lost were believed to be shops and outbuildings. FireSmart Alberta recommends Class A roofing and advises against wood shakes. We can build the roof as Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly, with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood. No roof is fireproof.

Cold

Months below freezing

Winter west of Edmonton is long, and the shoulder seasons bring thaw by day and frost by night. Water that gets into asphalt or cedar freezes and opens it up a little more each cycle. Aluminum takes on no water and cannot rust, so there is nothing in the panel for frost to work at.

Lake homes

A roof that waits for you

Around Wabamun Lake and Lac Ste. Anne, many homes are used seasonally: in Seba Beach, the 2021 census counted residents in fewer than half of the private dwellings. A roof you can't check every week should not rot, curl or rust between visits. The panels interlock on four sides, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Ice dams

Snow slides; ice dams start inside

Snow lets go of aluminum more readily than shingles, so snow guards go on the quote over entries, decks and driveways. Ice dams form when attic heat melts snow that refreezes at the cold eaves. The material warranty excludes ice damming, and we check insulation and ventilation with you rather than promise the roof will stop it.

Permits

City, town or county

Spruce Grove is a city and Stony Plain a town, each with its own permits; outside them, Parkland County and Lac Ste. Anne County set the rules, and the summer villages have their own councils. Whether a re-roof needs a permit depends on the work, so we confirm it for your address before the crew starts.

Why Spruce Grove homeowners choose aluminum

One Spruce Grove roof, built not to need another.

Our crews

We install, we answer

Every roof is put on by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd.'s own crews. The company that measures and prices your Spruce Grove roof is the one that installs it and handles any service call later.

Slate

Slate, by a wide margin

Slate is far and away the profile Spruce Grove homeowners have chosen in our job book. Cedar Shingle and Shake suit a house that had wood; Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam are also made, in nine colours. A 3/12 minimum slope applies, and we measure yours.

Acreages

The whole yard in one look

On a Parkland County acreage, the house, garage and shop can share one profile and colour. Each building is measured and priced separately, so the shop can wait a year and still match.

Weight

Light for an older frame

The panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, far less than concrete tile, which matters on an older house or a lake cabin. We inspect the rafters and decking first and write any repair into the quote.

Warranties

Material and labour, in writing

Interlock Roofing's Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty covers the aluminum and its finish while the original purchaser owns the home, transferable once, workmanship excluded. Our own 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty covers the installation.

Spruce Grove roofing questions, answered directly.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Spruce Grove?

We do. Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. is the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Alberta, founded in 1999, and we install every Spruce Grove roof with our own crews. Our only office is in Calgary; there is no Edmonton-area office, so the consultation is on Zoom or at your home. The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, and a 2026 GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Spruce Grove?

Inside the city, permits are the City of Spruce Grove's; in Stony Plain they are the Town's, and on county land Parkland County's or Lac Ste. Anne County's. Whether your re-roof needs one depends on the work, for example structural repairs to the decking. We confirm it for your address and include any permit in the written quote.

How does a metal roof handle hail in Spruce Grove?

Well, but no roof is immune to hail. The August 2, 2019 storm brought large hail to west Edmonton, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain and about $90 million in insured damage, per CatIQ and the Insurance Bureau of Canada. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. The material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in), so storm damage is a matter for your home insurance. Ask your insurer how they treat an impact-rated roof.

Which communities does sprucegroveroofing.com cover?

Spruce Grove and Stony Plain; Parkland County, including Acheson, Spring Lake, Carvel, Duffield, Wabamun, Seba Beach and Fallis; and the southern Lac Ste. Anne County communities of Onoway, Alberta Beach, Gunn and the lake villages. Edmonton, St. Albert and the rest of Northern Alberta are on edmontonmetalroofing.com: the same company, crews and warranties.

Can you roof a lake cabin at Wabamun or Lac Ste. Anne?

Yes. The panels are light, roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, which suits older cabin framing, and aluminum cannot rust in a damp lakeside setting. We inspect the structure, plan snow guards, and can schedule the consultation on Zoom if you are not at the lake.

What does a metal roof cost in Spruce Grove?

Our cost page shows real contract prices from Interlock® roofs signed in the Edmonton and Northern Alberta market in 2025 and 2026. Treat them as a rough guide only: prices vary from job to job with structural and other conditions, and an in-home roof consultation is required for an accurate price. The consultation and the written quote are free.
